3-D Cover for A Long Way From Eden

"A mesmerizing cast includes two homicide detectives with an irresistible rapport. Top notch!" ActionTales.com

A Long Way From Eden is a mystery novel set in the fictional county of Pine County. Sgt. Adam Templeton and his partner, Joe Davey, are assigned to the case of the murder of a young woman later identified as missing college student, Dawn Emmanuel. After her body is found, atop 'a sinkhole that has freakishly erupted', the two men must start to unravel the truth initially, with very little clues or leads.

As the novel progresses more interesting facts are revealed as the author weaves a tangled web of intrigue and chilling discoveries. From the involvement of the "Org," a religious cult that may hold a link to the murdered girl, to the 24 year old disappearance of her mother. Could the two cases be related in any way?

Author, David Chacko, excites and involves the reader as he draws them deeper into a magnificent tale of murder and suspense. He possesses a unique talent of creating believable characters and enthralling story line to keep any readers of this book glued to its pages until the end.

I recommend this novel to all lovers of the crime genre for a breathtaking read of amazing flair and creativity. Definitely a must buy!

"And the earth shall give up its dead" -- an event that will take place at the end of the world. For young Dawn Emmanuel the end came way too early. Then the earth did open and give her up. Into the hands of police detectives Adam Templeton and his partner, Joe.

So begins the hunt for a killer that takes Adam and Joe into the world of a personality cult that uses brainwashing and threats to control its members. They become aware of the cult's power and the fear such groups engender, as their questions go unanswered and they are forced to look outside the cult for the reason for Dawn's murder.

As the Pine County police traverse Florida, backtracking Dawn's life and that of her killer, they learn how a cult can develop from the idea of one person. And more questions than answers are raised.

This is a good book for those times the reader wants to just stay inside a warm room and read, a time to relax and follow two able detectives going about their work. Talented author David Chacko has written a well-constructed story that will keep the reader turning the pages, wanting to know what comes next. A Long Way From Eden comes recommended as a pleasant, fun read for any mystery lover.

Sgt. Adam Templeton, along with his partner Joe Davey, work for Pine County Homicide, a fictional county in Florida. Templeton is not exactly by the book, but appears so compared to his wayward partner, who has a fondness for young women that may just cost him his badge.

When the body of a young woman turns up, Templeton becomes intrigued by more than just the fact of another homicide. First, they need to identify the corpse, and once that happens, the story grows increasingly complex.

The victim, Dawn Emmanuel, a college student who had not returned to school after the death of her grandmother, turns out not to be another unfortunate statistic of a random crime.

In a well-told tale of police procedures combined with plenty of human elements of the cops involved, the reader soon learns that a quasi-religious group called the "Org" is involved in the disappearance and ultimate death of Dawn Emmanuel. But Templeton can't figure out the woman's role in the off-the-wall community.

At the same time, he is assigned a female officer to help work the case, with Joe still hanging on by a thread, waiting for a conclusion on a possible charge stemming from an encounter with a young woman whose age has not yet been verified beyond doubt. Templeton isn't ready to abandon Davey but Janet is working out fine.

Soon Templeton learns that Dawn's mother, who had died mysteriously twenty-four years earlier, may have also been murdered--a coincidence? He doesn't believe in them, especially when he finds out that she may have been some type of preacher.

If you are a fan of mysteries, especially those from the cop's point of view, you should enjoy A Long Way From Eden.

A Long Way from Eden begins with the body of a woman found in a sinkhole. Adam Templeton, with his partner Joe, has the task of finding out the identity of the woman, why she was murdered, who killed her, and why she is in a sinkhole in Florida. The woman does have an identifying tattoo of a scarab at the base of her neck. From changing lifestyles, to religious cults, to the use of hypnotic drugs, the short life of the ever changing web-based database computer system companies, in an action-adventure form; A Long Way from Eden is a delightfully fast-paced novel.

The characters are very realistic with normal problems that add depth to their individual personalities. Adam finds himself even becoming immersed in the death of the girl's mother while attempting to understand the victim and her life. The influence of religious cults is a strong underlying factor throughout this novel and adds to the unlimited threads of investigation. Even Adam's personal life with Ghislene becomes an integral influence upon the thinking process in solving this murder.

The pace of this novel was very quick and flew as clues were discovered. The discovery process does remind you of a puzzle as you build upon each previously correctly placed piece and do not really visualize the entire picture until its completion.

David Chacko spends his time between Florida and the city of Istanbul. Even though his life itself sounds like a novel with traveling between those two places, his time spent in Florida and this area was invaluable with the pacing and the sequencing.

The only negative comment that can be said about A Long Way from Eden is the lack of availability. This mystery is well-written, fast-paced, and keeps the reader wondering about the novel and also why the author has worked with so many different publishers and has had difficulty getting this book into a hard copy. Supposedly it will be available from Amazon in February 2004, and if it isn't, go to the author's website at www.davidchacko.com. This book is well-worth any extra time and effort spent in finding it.

"A Long Way from Eden is a good book and deserves a better life." Even though the author himself said this, I strongly agree with this statement and personally plan to find some of his other books previously published and look forward to reading other novels in the future by this unique author.
