Snippet from Book

General Howe drew his sword and Sergeant Major Follens took up the signal in every region of his being, thrusting his hanger high and bellowing, "Every bastard forward!"

Then he spoke no more. The muskets that had been absent from the rail fence appeared before the grenadiers could take more than one step, and a scorching sheet of musketry spoke in deafening tones.

It seemed in that moment that every ball had been directed at Follens, for Howe had never seen a human body and its furnishings so ripped and slashed and imploded. The sergeant-major’s hanger flew from his hand, his shoulder-boards were both blown off, his bearskin cap leaped into the air, his match-box was torn from his side, and that massive body jolted backwards three paces before it fell over as if cut in half.

Follens might have been cut in half. He might have taken fifty balls into his body, but that could not have been possible, because there were hundreds more of ball in the air, whining and snapping, and there was a constant din of fire. Grenadiers were falling not by ones and twos but by the half-dozen. So many fell that the fire raked the regulars in the second line. And they were going down.

"Fall back!" cried Howe. "Back behind the wall!"

About This Great Book

When your ship burns at sea, you return to dry land and farming. When you enlist in the militia, the war comes along and moves you at breakneck speed to Boston. There you find yourself dropped into the furious Battle of Bunker Hill. You recover from your wounds in time to sign aboard a ship with the worst captain ever to sail the Seven Seas. And you wind up a prisoner of the enemy.

That's the start of the story that has been called "one of the strangest ever made known." It's yours if your name is Israel Potter. If not, call yourself Everyman.

From A Review

The Brimstone Papers is a worthy successor (actually a prequel, in order of publication) to Gone Over, published in 2009. Taken together, the two books amount to a fictional narrative of the adult life of a real historical character of note during the American Revolution, Israel Potter. The Brimstone Papers deals with Potter's life as a young man as the Revolution lurches into motion. Gone Over opens with Potter as a captive of the British and his recruitment by them to spy on his countrymen. It is an extraordinary life, and Mssrs. Chacko and Kulcsar have rendered it in a highly readable and absorbing fashion.

From The Author

We spent as much time researching this story as we did writing it. We're pretty sure the hard labor doesn't show, but the enthusiasm does. This is a great read meant to be savored without really stopping.
