Planet of Men
Book 2 of Enigma
by David Crane
About this Book
For centuries, the powerful and immortal human overlords have ruled planet Enigma. Then an ancient prophecy circulated among the mortals comes true. Professor Peter Blackwood is the last human captured by an enigmatic and powerful alien red cloud.
Forced to become a warrior and a rebel messiah against his will, Blackwood is confronted and nearly killed by the overlords.
Finding a temporary refuge on Freedom Island, the only place where overlords lose their powers, he prepares to finish the alien game. Victory means returning home. Defeat would guarantee death of countless innocent lives.
Trying to outwit his enemies and assisted by his trusted friends who believe in him, Blackwood prepares to face his final apocalyptic battle. To stop him, the enemy would use everything in their lethal arsenal, from assassins to deadly battle robots to a doomsday legion of powerful human demigods determined to make sure he fails.
For Blackwood the choice is simple: victory or death.

In David Crane's Planet of Men, the second and final volume of the Enigma series continues. Trapped on distant planet Enigma by a powerful alien intelligence, Professor Peter Blackwood fights for survival. His name is on everyone's lips and he is heralded as a planet's savior from the tyrannical overlords. But Blackwood does not want to be a messiah. All he wants is to return home back to the Confederation. But to save countless innocent lives he has no choice, but to play the game to its end.
Protected by wisdom, love and power of a female overlord Sachiko Nomura, Blackwood manages to avoid death at the hands of the overlord chief enforcer Edward Grant. Sentenced to death by the overlord Empress Yuka Sato, Blackwood successfully escapes the imperial mainland, but loses a valuable friend Kate Shaw, a fearless teenage girl and a smuggler's niece, who is captured by the overlords and becomes their hostage. He finds refuge on Freedom Island, the only place on the planet where the overlords could not touch him. The island's soil protects the islanders, bringing mortality to any overlord.
Assisted in his mission by a master smuggler team Rick Spencer and his son Tomas, Blackwood gains new friends and followers. He receives wisdom from Grand Arbiter Alexis Troevski, a centuries' old human entrusted with a special mission. Protected by the island's unique ecosystem, Blackwood falls in love with strong and fierce tribal girl warrior Lita Sandir. The alien's game involving the entire population of planet Enigma has reached a critical phase.
The overlord empire is preparing a massive invasion of Freedom Island using highly trained soldiers and lethal battle robots. To accomplish his mission and win the alien game, Blackwood must gather all his wisdom and courage to discover and activate the mysterious ancient artifact called the Heart of the Sun. The artifact can end the war between humans and overlords once and for all. It is hidden on Freedom Island in the deep caves protected by horrific monsters of ancient legend. And in this battle Blackwood must achieve nothing less than victory.
