Centaurus was half a million kilometers from entering Ceres' gravitational pull when it happened.

Even if he had been awake, Rory would have never seen nor heard the powerful collection of energy that had gathered behind one of Jupiter's moons. Although it had no mass, its length stretched to the center of the Milky Way. Like an ominous cloud, it materialized out of nowhere, its power so immense that had it hit Mars it would have spun the planet out of its elliptical orbit straight into the sun. Stronger than a billion hurricanes, it picked Centaurus up in its wake and hurled the spaceship to the far edge of the solar system. From there the energy field gained more momentum. Eventually, at many times the speed of light, it sent the spaceship to a dwarf galaxy behind the central plane of the Milky Way.

Then, the energy field reversed its direction. Once it was close to Jupiter, it dissipated to a mere ground swell, sending Centaurus in a direction away from its initial trajectory.

When Rory regained consciousness, the first thing he heard was the alarm. Glancing at the chronometer on the wall, he knew something had gone terribly wrong. A chill ran through him.

He had known the risks. But to die like this—utterly alone in the vast void of space?

About this Book

When Rory Colt crashes his spaceship and regains consciousness, he is shocked to discover he has somehow managed to return to Earth. Unfortunately, the world he knew and loved no longer exists. In its place are two dissimilar societies. One is a futuristic world run by hybrids—the other, a society that chooses to live a simplistic life like those in the nineteenth century.

The modernistic society he enters isn't what he expected it would be. While there, he is confronted with the realization that the beautiful woman hybrid who lured him to her side of the demarcation line had no choice but to manipulate him—she is, in fact, being controlled by an omniscient electronic immortal.

To free himself and her people, he must find a way to destroy the fiend. But how does one destroy a creature who lives in cyberspace?

A Review

Michael Cole's science fiction novel, Antiquated Astronaut, takes you on a chilling time travel adventure.

As an astronaut, Rory Colt's mission is to reach the asteroid belt. As he approaches Saturn, something inexplicable happens. His ship is hurled to the far reaches of the Milky Way and back at an incalculable speed. It takes all of his mental fortitude to guide the spacecraft back to Earth. The planet he knew and loved is now a far different world, a world decimated not only by the Great War, but also by global warming.

Although he lands five hundred years into the future, the young woman, who finds his mangled body and brings him back to health, lives in the past. He is told that after an apocalyptic event occurred, a line of demarcation was drawn between two diametrically different cultures. On one side of the line, a group of people who call themselves Minimalists, live a simplistic life. On the other side is a futuristic world that is far different from the one where he crash-landed. The people there call themselves Universalists and live only a stone's throw away.

Lured by a woman who lives in the futuristic world, he finds himself in a society comprised solely of women hybrids who spend most of their time in virtual reality paradigms. Betrayed by the very woman who had talked him into leaving the Minimalist enclave, he is confronted with a choice: stay with the Universalists and the hybrid woman who is about to give birth to his son, or go back to the Minimalist world he had left. Whichever decision he makes will have dire consequences that could leave him a broken man.

You will find yourself drawn into this story and the diverse set of characters created by the author.
