Stephen J. Schrader's science fiction book, Ajax, is the second book in the Argosy Trilogy. It's a whirlwind read as a stand-alone adventure, or as the sequel to Paradigm Lost.
The story begins in a ski resort high in the Rocky Mountains, where Michael Sykes is enjoying an ill-deserved ski vacation. He's an identity thief and a coward, who's about to be confronted by one Autumn Brooke.
She's the commander of Captain Jacob Brinn's security forces, and she has orders to keep Sykes alive. This is a pretty tall order, because he's stolen the identity of Captain Brinn himself, and all the terrorists and all the armies of the whole world are now mobilizing to kill him.
This is the opening move of Captain Brinn's new voyage, and the second phase of his plan to bring the wonders of the future to the world of today.
But, the best laid plans of even the Captain can go astray. A new player, AJAX, enters the game, and enters with a brutal vengeance.
Soon the incredible game of spy-versus-spy, deception and misinformation, and a whirling race through cyberspace begins.
In an incredible battle of wills, using technologies from beyond the limits of human comprehension, America herself lies prostrate. And, the only force on earth that has any chance of preventing AJAX from ripping out America's golden heart is Captain Jacob Brinn and his magnificent Argo.
